Specialty Latex Price Increases Likely

Research Triangle Park, N.C. – March 28, 2008 – Executives from Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex, a leading source for specialty latexes used in a variety of industries, expect that 2008 will bring additional pricing adjustments for the polymers the company markets worldwide. The company cites the unprecedented pace of escalation of costs for raw materials and energy.

“The global hydrocarbon market continues to be a challenge,” said Dave Gartshore, global vice president for sales for Dow Reichhold. “The escalation in costs, the frequency of cost increases and the impact on monomers and other hydrocarbon raw materials have continued at a rapid pace, and we expect these trends to continue into the foreseeable future.”

Dow Reichhold has increased prices on its specialty polymers twice in the past four months, and expects a further adjustment to be announced within the next few weeks, to be effective on May 1.

“The fast-paced movement of monomers and overall energy costs affects all of us in every industry,” Gartshore said. “As a company, we intend to change our approach to price adjustments away from the traditional ‘30 day’s notice’ to announcing increases when needed to incorporate the higher costs we incur.”

Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex LLC is a 50/50 joint venture of The Dow Chemical Company and Reichhold, Inc. The joint venture is the world’s largest producer of specialty latex. The company is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, U.S.A.
