Dow Reichhold Names Antimicrobial Polymer Technology

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina – March 9, 2007 – Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex has announced the naming of its novel technologies (patents pending) to produce emulsion polymers that offer a range of antimicrobial functionality. The company has selected PolySāf™ Antimicrobial Polymers as the name for the technology platform.

“Sometimes, everything is in a name,” said Douglas Johnson, a global marketing manager for Dow Reichhold. “So we have brought three critical components into ours. The PolySāf™ name references the tunable polymer platform, the sustainable antimicrobial feature through the use of the acronym SAF, and the safety component provided by antimicrobial protection in general.”

“Our technology includes polymers that have inherent antimicrobial properties,” Johnson said. In addition, we can provide an emulsion polymer that integrates commonly used active ingredients into an end-use product. In effect, we can tailor the antimicrobial performance to meet the needs of a specific application,” he concluded.

Dow Reichhold is collaborating closely with selected companies to identify the most promising applications for the technology.

More information is available on the company’s web site at www.dowreichhold.com/AMPolymers. Specific questions regarding product development programs should be directed to Patrick Delaney, Business Development Manager for Dow Reichhold, 630-836-1590.
