Cheswold, Delaware – August 30, 2006 – The Dow Reichhold Cheswold plant has resumed production after being shut down on Friday, August 25 due to the emergency with a railcar sitting on plant property. Employees began returning to the plant on Saturday evening, August 26, to begin the process of starting up the plant.
“Our start-up procedure has gone as we planned, and we are producing product and meeting our customers’ needs,” said Michael Galbus, plant manager for Dow Reichhold. “Because none of our plant process equipment or utilities were involved or damaged in any way we expected start-up to go smoothly, and it has.”
According to Galbus the cleanup procedure and preparations for the railcar to leave the plant site are progressing. After resealing and inspections by appropriate agencies, the railcar will be returned for cleaning and repair, as needed.
The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing. Officials from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC) as well as Dow Reichhold personnel are working to identify exactly what happened with the railcar.
Residents in the area adjacent to the plant are encouraged to call the company with any questions, or for more information. Local residents may call 302-736-9100.
